Used for Islet CultureBovine serum is usually used as an additive in a culture of pancreatic islets, which is attracting attention as a treatment for diabetes. Rat islets were successfully cultured with Pure Sericin in place of bovine serum. Furthermore, transplantation of these pancreatic islets to diabetic rats resulted in stabilized blood glucose levels.
Improves Proliferation of CellsPure Sericin helps promote cell proliferation and works to suppress cell death. An addition of Pure Sericin to the medium of antibody-producing hybridoma cells showed proliferation similar to culture using bovine-derived protein (BSA). Unlike bovine-derived materials, which vary in quality from lot to lot, Pure Sericin allows for stable cell cultures.
